We require a qualified professional to join the Practicum team. The Practicum Nurse Technologist acts as the clinical lead for confirming practicum-related health requirements for students. The incumbent will review, track, verify, and certify student compliance with these requirements.


• Coordinating and implementing the certification process including reviewing, tracking, verifying and certifying practicum health requirements

• Communicating requirements for compliance with students and scheduling individual students appointments for completion issues

• Liaising with and coordinating the work of the Nursing Placement Officer and Program Assistants who may be participating in the data collection and verification process

• Entering requirements documentation into Health Tracker

• Analyze Health Tracker reports for accurate results; respond to and assist Placement Officers and Program Coordinators with interpreting report data

• Clinical lead of Practicum services team; contributing clinical input to annual review of practicum health requirements, processes, and forms for collection

• Maintaining productive working relationship with health sciences teams/departments; promoting good public relations with other educational facilities and health care agencies

• Participating in program promotional activities for prospective students

• Monitor any changes in Ontario Hospital Association/Ontario Medical Association guidelines and protocols as they apply to practicum health requirements and communicate these changes to a sub-committee on a regular basis

• Gather information on upcoming flu clinics and disseminate to coordinators.  Promote the importance of flu immunization and increase student awareness.  Monitor standards re: flu immunization with community partners

• Acting as the School of Health and Life Sciences and Community Services expert on infection control.  This includes being the liaison with the Waterloo Wellington Infection Control Network and bringing their recommendations back to the School and recommending how to best institute these practices in the Cowan Health Sciences Centre.  May include being consulted by programs on inclusion of these practices in curriculum.  Attend WWICN seminars.

• Assist International students in the completion of practicum health requirements.  This requires counselling of the students, noting deficiencies and liaising with Health Services to get completion in a timely fashion

• Contributes clinical input to the annual review of practicum health requirements and the processes and forms for their collection to ensure requirements are current and that information to students is the most helpful in gaining compliance  


• Four year degree and a current Certificate of Competence as a Registered Nurse in the province of Ontario

• Five years of clinical experience in a health care agency

• Occupational health and safety knowledge and experience

• Ability to acquire knowledge of immunization requirements and other practicum requirements

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• High level of organizational skills; ability to set priorities
