We require a qualified individual to coordinate the operations of the Doon Campus Fitness Centre and Fitness Programming.

• Under the direction of the Manager, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training and evaluating part-time student staff, volunteers, and fitness instructors

• Developing staff schedules based on operational and programming needs

• Using current research and best practices in the area of fitness and wellness to create programs that offer a variety of programming opportunities for all fitness levels

• Coordinating vendor communication, servicing and repair of Fitness Centre equipment and supplies

• Coordinating and executing student recreation and intramural programming

• Using college demographics and best practices develop a comprehensive program complement that meets the needs of the student population for all recreation levels

• Scheduling facility space in accordance with booking protocols

• Organizing program equipment

• Marketing and communicating recreation opportunities and outcomes

• Coordinating program registration

• Developing and monitoring budgets (i.e. fitness centre, recreation programming, events,

• Maintaining records and statistics; analysing quantitative and qualitative statistical data; evaluating effectiveness of programming against defined outcomes; developing reports and making recommendations that target continuous improvement

• Developing, coordinating and executing cross College events and initiatives that support Health and Wellness

• Organizing and coordinating the logistics of events (e.g. scheduling, room booking, work requests, identifying required resources, etc.)

• Creating partnerships with faculty to engage programs/courses in event participation and execution

• Liaising with internal/external service providers to establish and support event participation

• Coordinating event marketing and promotion

• Maintaining records and statistics; analysing quantitative and qualitative statistical data; evaluating effectiveness of event(s); developing reports and making recommendations that target continuous improvement

• Supporting other departmental activities (i.e. event support for varsity programming, rental groups, etc.)

• Providing coverage for front desk or fitness centre staff when necessary

• Assisting with activity setup/tear down when necessary

• Assisting with training

• Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with College departments


• Three year diploma/degree in Recreation, Recreation Management, Physical Education, Fitness and Health Promotion

• Three years of experience working individuals in a recreation programming/fitness capacity, preferably within an educational setting

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience regarding fitness instruction, programming and equipment

• Experience in the oversight of a fitness centre and part-time staff

• Experience advising, delegating, leading, motivating, supervising and coaching staff OR volunteers

• Ability to work with diverse groups (as defined in the Human Rights Charter)

• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and apply literature, research, and institutional data to create outcomes-based programs and services

• Advanced computer skills including familiarity with Recreation Management Software and other applicable software (including Microsoft Office Suite)

• Knowledge of fitness programming and equipment

• Strong judgement, flexibility, adaptability, and written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated commitment to client service – specifically students, staff and external contacts

• Must be able to work flexible hours when overseeing intramurals (as late as 10 p.m.)
