We require a qualified individual to join the Student Engagement team, and work collaboratively with team members to develop, deliver and evaluate programming that fosters student leadership and development, promotes community and civic engagement, supports student transition to College, and promotes inclusion and respect among community members.   Responsibilities related to this role include developing and supporting student leadership positions and planning and organizing the English Conversation Partners initiative and the Connect Leadership Workshop Series.

• Work with the team members to support paid and unpaid Student Leadership positions

• Identify paid student leadership opportunities and develop position descriptions

• Develop, coordinate and support volunteer Student Committee(s)

• Develop recruitment methods and interview guides for Student Leader positions

• Interview, hire, facilitate training and develop work plans

• Guide and support Student Leaders by providing feedback and developing action plans to improve performance

• Review paid student leader payroll

• Provide formal/informal recognition to Student Leaders

• In collaboration with team members, develop, coordinate and execute cross College events and initiatives to support the Student Engagement strategic objectives

• Organize and coordinate the logistics of the event (e.g. scheduling, room booking, work requests, identifying required resources, etc.)

• Create partnerships with faculty to engage programs/courses in event participation and execution

• Liaise with internal/external service providers to establish and support event participation

• Coordinate marketing and promotion adhering to the Student Engagement marketing plan

• Maintain records and statistics; analyze quantitative and qualitative statistical data; evaluate effectiveness of event(s); develop reports and make recommendations that target continuous improvement

• Plan, organize and deliver the English Conversation Partners initiative

• Plan, organize and coordinate the Connect Leadership Workshop Series

• Support other Student Engagement initiatives as required, including event support (e.g. Orientation, Respect Campaign events, etc.); delivering Respect workshop; promoting Student Engagement initiatives during College events; participating on committee(s), as identified by supervisor  


• Three year diploma/degree in Leadership, Community Development, Education, Student Development, Recreation, Social Work, Sociology

• Seminars/courses in:  Interpersonal Communication Training; Diversity Training; Leadership Development ; Volunteer Management; Program Development and Evaluation are required

• Three years of experience working individuals in a community development capacity, preferably within an educational setting; advising, delegating, leading, motivating, supervising and coaching staff or volunteers

• Ability to develop and facilitate experiential workshops, specifically related to the topics of leadership and diversity

• Event planning/managing experience

• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and apply literature, research, institutional data and theoretical frameworks to establish evidence and outcomes-based programs and services

• Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations (as defined in the Human Rights Charter) and ability to facilitate discussions around diversity

• Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and diplomacy skills to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

• Strong judgement, flexibility, adaptability, and written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated commitment to client service – specifically students, staff and external contacts

• Able to travel and work out of multiple locations
