Two year full-time administrative replacement position August 2017 - August 2019


We require a qualified individual to provide support services, cultural and academic advising, and outreach to Aboriginal students promoting their success at the College.

• Develop and implement strategies specific to the Aboriginal population (students and employees)

• Act as a liaison between the College and Aboriginal organizations and communities

• Provide leadership and direction to staff/students working within Aboriginal Services and represent the College on designated provincial/regional committees

• Develop and participate in initiatives and events, (i.e. Pow Wow, Full moon ceremonies, politician visits, ceremonies, etc.)

• Support Aboriginal students through a variety of services and programs, and liaise with Aboriginal Elders and others in the community who act as resources and supports for the students

• Ensure appropriate and respectful traditions for Aboriginal peoples are reinforced within the College

• Manage budget for the department

• Research Aboriginal funding sources  


• Three year diploma/degree in Education, Social Sciences or a related field

• A minimum of three years of experience in a relevant environment

• Established roots in Aboriginal and First Nation communities and/or associated governance and service groups

• Ability to speak a local Native language, and community development skills working with Aboriginal organizations and communities, are assets

• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate across cultures and articulate an Aboriginal worldview within a post-secondary setting

• Knowledge of Aboriginal history and education, and an understanding of Aboriginal culture and traditions, are required

• Strong management skills to include problem solving and critical thinking

• Excellent verbal/written communication and organizational skills

• Proven leadership, interpersonal and communication skills

• A commitment to consensus building, and computer literacy

• Computer literacy – knowledge of Student Information Systems and Microsoft Office Suite
