Full-time support staff replacement position

Responsibilities:

We require a qualified individual to promote, develop, coordinate and implement educational and career advising services to students, new graduates and alumni.

 

• Delivers career and educational advising services to current students and graduates through individual on-campus appointments as well as virtual advising by phone, email, GoToMeeting or Skype • Provides career and educational advising services including: career assessment and exploration; career and education planning; articulation agreements and educational pathways; labour market information, trends and resources • Utilizes strategies that are appropriate for the diverse populations served and provides resources in multiple formats to ensure the needs of students and faculty are met • Conducts formal and informal career assessment and career exploration by selecting, administering and interpreting the appropriate formal B level psychometric and/or informal career assessment tools • Assists and guides students to define and develop meaningful education goals and academic pathways, addressing barriers that affect academic success and developing achievable plans to reach their goals • Collaborates with Aboriginal Services, Accessibility Services, International Education, Learning Commons, Library Resource Centre, Student Life and others to co-develop and co-deliver presentations and workshops for delivery in-class, on campus and virtually that include career assessment and exploration, educational and career planning, career clarity, labour market information/trends, etc. • Refers students to other College services, (i.e. Aboriginal Services, Accessibility Services, Counselling, Health Services, Learning Resource Centre, etc.) when appropriate • Refers students to Credit Transfer Office, Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid and school/program staff and faculty to offer holistic student support and services and resolve issues related to student success and retention • Attends PAC, faculty, coordinator and other meetings as requested/required to foster productive working relationships, enhance communication, and remain current with new and existing full-time programs • Researches new career tools and resources, current labour market information, industry and workplace trends that are culturally appropriate and aligned with school/programs • Incorporates appropriate guidelines, research and experience in developing, implementing and managing services for students/faculty that are aligned with schools/programs • Collaborates with faculty to develop customised, program-specific educational and career planning/management resources • Works with faculty to identify opportunities to integrate self-assessment, career exploration, educational pathways, career planning, career clarity, labour market information, and other resources into the classroom through workshops, course content, assignments etc. to reach as many students as possible • Coaches faculty and students on the effective use of Career Hub tools and resources such as MyCareer, InterviewStream and career exploration tools through face-to-face interactions, in-class visits, school/program activities/events • Plans, promotes and executes on-campus activities such as employer information panels, career exploration events, and career/job fairs with industry/professional associations, alumni networking events etc. that are aligned with school/programs • With the Career Hub team, develops, reviews and updates content for department communications & marketing (print, digital and social media); develops and curates content for Conestoga website, My Conestoga and MyCareer sites • Participates in marketing of Career Hub programs, services and resources on social media • Delivers “introduction to Career Hub” and other Career Hub overview presentations • Assists with and participates in Career Hub events such as P4E Career and Job Fairs, Conestoga Job Fair • Participates in College events such as orientation, student success week, college open house, Motive Power Job Fair, Educational Pathway Fair, etc. as required • Effectively uses the MyCareer online appointment module to schedule and track appointment services • Produces statistical reports from MyCareer for activity tracking, reporting and planning • Works with the Employer and Career Portal Coordinator to stay current on the functions and features of the MyCareer Career Portal to optimize data collection, activity tracking, benchmarking and reporting • Participates in Career Hub priority setting, and operational and strategic planning, and other special projects as assigned


Qualifications:

• Four year degree in social sciences and/or education, plus post grad certificate or graduate studies in fields related to career development such as Career Development Practitioner or Career Counselling • Five years of experience in career advising • Certification in career assessments such as MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, Personality Dimensions preferred • Professionalism, diplomacy and the ability to interface effectively at all levels of the College and a diverse student population • Proven teaching, facilitation and coaching skills • Well-developed active and reflective listening/questioning skills coupled with strong assessment skills • Demonstrated ability to adapt, manage and respond flexibly to ongoing changes in service delivery • Well-developed computer and technical skills with the capacity to effectively utilize online career and employment exploration/management tools (i.e. MyCareer portal, InterviewStream), and deliver services virtually and in the classroom (i.e. eConestoga, YuJa) • Excellent communication and presentation skills with a proven capacity to develop, curate and share content for print, digital and social media channels
