Full-time, Support Staff, Replacement Position


• Respond to maintenance calls and work requests

• Perform repairs to buildings and contents

• Maintain work areas to ensure maximum use of resources available (i.e. space, equipment)

• Assemble and/or build cupboards, bookcases, shelving and installation

• Install and repair locks on doors, cupboards, filing cabinets and desks

• Adjust and maintain door hardware (i.e. tighten striker plates, and adjust speed of closers, lubricate hinges and locks)

• Cut keys by code or copy/combinate cores for all locations

• Install notice boards, whiteboards and signage

• Perform minor painting (i.e. washroom dividers, touch up of walls, etc.)

• Assist various trades and/or contractors to complete tasks

• Complete minor plumbing repairs at the Cambridge Location

• Complete repairs to drywall, masonry walls and ceilings

• Complete minor repairs to glass installation

• Complete preventative maintenance to all roof areas (types) and repair if within the scope of knowledge

• Move furniture, up to and including complete assembly of modular furniture and completes repairs to same

• Move equipment and supplies throughout Doon and Cambridge

• Complete required academic space set up to ensure delivery of programs in all common academic areas following appropriate codes and legislation

• Repair various furniture equipment in common academic areas

• Repair as per work request program specific equipment as required

• Provide information to college staff regarding furniture set-up/location

• Act as a member of the emergency response team and assist with monthly fire alarm testing

• Direct junior staff on how to complete tasks

• Recommend scheduling of various jobs to ensure maximum use of resources (i.e. priority of maintenance calls and work requests – grouping work together in same area, timing when room is available, etc.)

• Review/recommend changes to preventative maintenance programs up to and including the implementation of new processes and documentation of same for various building components and equipment

• Provide temporary back-up or assistance and support to various Facilities functions including but not limited to:  convocation, shipping and receiving, snow removal, grounds maintenance, equipment repairs, exterior and interior signs, assist with emergencies (within Facility Management), assist trades/contractors, etc.

• Complete any other related tasks as directed by a supervisor

• Adhere to all Health & Safety Policies and Procedures and complete all training as required



• Two years of practical experience maintaining and repairing building contents and equipment

• Experience with hand tools for working with wood and other products

• Cost estimating for reading/understanding building plans

• Advanced reading, writing and arithmetic

• Specialized technical skills would be an asset in some areas.  i.e. locksmithing

• Completion of a High Security Lock System workshop would be an asset

• Good organizational skills

• Ability to deal effectively and respectfully with people

• Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with clients

• Maintain in good standing a valid full G Class Ontario Driver’s License; personal transportation an asset

• Overtime hours required, including before/after regular workday as well as weekends, based on weather conditions and/or special events
