Description:

Full-time Reclassified Replacement Support Staff position

Responsibilities:

We require a qualified individual to join the Library’s technology team and support student learning and success through adaptive technology use and digital skills development.  The incumbent will provide expertise in current and emerging technologies and universal design to support all students with a focus on accessibility.

• Assesses, develops, and collaborates on students’ Success Plans to incorporate learning and adaptive technologies, tools and training to support academic access and success

• Acts as the College contact for alternate format requests for students

• Ensures all services within their area meet AODA requirements, keeping up to date with legislation changes and responding accordingly

• Collaborates with Student Success Services on implementation, testing, and training of required adaptive technologies

• Develops the processes and manages the resources required to ensure efficient, timely and effective alternate format requests which may include:  requests to publishers, accessing in-house or external repositories, conversions and production of textbooks, course materials, scholarly resources and tests

• Develops processes and prepares bursary quotes in collaboration with Accessibility Advisors including updated lists of pre-approved equipment and software for purchasing

• Acts as a learning technology expert; researches current and emerging technologies to enhance student learning and to provide improved access for students with academic accommodations

• Monitors new developments and coordinates access to adaptive technology software in College labs and testing environments; liaises with IT Services, Testing Services and faculty to implement

• Develops learning objects, and conducts technology orientations and workshops for Conestoga students and staff, related to accommodations, learning technologies, and services

• Collaborates with Testing Centre to ensure technologies are in place for accommodation requirements

• As it relates to technologies to support accessibility and access to learning:

  • Collaborates with colleagues on the development and delivery of Teach Me Tech services including Tech Bars, Tech Loans, Tech Tutors and online supports
  • Assists with training and development of student staff
  • Collaborates on the inventory, maintenance, and replacement of hardware and software in the Tech Bars, specialized labs, testing environments and the Apprenticeship lending library
  • Prepares proposals and recommends hardware and software for purchase by the College; works with IT department and external vendors to problem-solve issues related to adaptive products and/or integration with consideration of licensing agreements

Qualifications:

• Minimum four year degree in an Education or Technology field; Post-graduate degree or diploma considered an asset

• Five years of experience in an educational environment, including:

  • Drawing information from psychoeducational assessments, consultations with students, and knowledge of educational barriers to recommend learning technology supports
  • Providing technology support for students including those with disabilities, e.g. creating accessible documents
  • Consulting/providing expertise on hardware and software for learning
  • Guiding and advising on accessible design of learning materials and resources
  • Instructional experience including development of online learning objects and other online resources, and facilitating workshops

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

• Dedicated to student success and customer service

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Demonstrated problem-analysis and creative problem-solving skills

• Highly collaborative with a variety of stakeholders

• Ability to maintain professionalism in high stress situations

• Flexible and able to juggle competing priorities
