Responsibilities:

The Department of Athletics and Recreation at Conestoga College invites all qualified candidates to apply for the part-time contract position of Head Coach of the Conestoga Condors Varsity Badminton Program. Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Athletics, the Head Coach is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the technical, tactical and physical curriculum which prepares the student athlete for successful competition within the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA). This is a Part Time position which requires evening, weekend and periodic weekday day time hours. Salary commensurate with experience.

  • Developing the overall program plan for the Badminton team, including a yearly plan as well as daily practice plans
  • Identifying and recruiting academically strong student athletes
  • Maintaining effective communications and administrative systems amongst coaches, players, athletic and facility staff
  • Complete adherence to and support of CCAA, OCAA and Conestoga policies and procedures
  • Organizing and running related competitions and activities (e.g. Tournament, clinics etc.)

GENERAL ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAM

  • The competitive season begins the second week of October and runs until February; with Ontario Championships held in late February and National Championships in early March
  • The team practices 2-3 times a week (1.5 hours/practice) and participates in strength and conditioning sessions 1-2 times a week (1 hour sessions)
  • Support personnel includes 1-2 assistant coaches and a team therapist who is present at practices and games

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years of experience coaching 16 to 24 year olds
  • Hold a minimum of NCCP Level 1 certification, Level 2 an asset
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound administrative skills and strong motivational abilities
  • Be committed to fair play and represent Conestoga professionally at all times
  • Strong association to local club systems and high-schools is considered an asset
  • The candidate must hold values consistent with those of Conestoga College in developing student athletes with strong academic standards while cultivating a competitive Badminton program
