Description:

Vacancy Type: New full-time administrative position

Responsibilities:

We require a qualified individual to develop and deliver faculty development resources and learning opportunities primarily for Conestoga faculty with a key focus on supporting faculty teaching diverse student groups. Note: Travel to all campuses is required. Evenings and weekends are required three times during the year and the successful applicant may be asked to facilitate a residential component for faculty requiring three yearly overnight stays away from the college

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create services and resources for programs with large cohorts of International students so that a welcoming environment is created by faculty for those new to Canadian post-secondary education
  • Create best practice videos, blog, guides, rubrics, etc. to support customized coaching, observations, workshops and consultations
  • Develop and deliver dynamic workshops and other in-person learning opportunities for faculty at all campuses (e.g. class management, evaluation, reading circle, teaching squares, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, coordinators, Chairs, the International Office, and other college stakeholders to identify common learning needs and develop appropriate workshops and resources
  • Work with the Associate Director, Teaching and Learning and other consultants on a variety of professional development initiatives in support of teaching and learning processes
  • Develop and co-deliver on boarding activities for Conestoga faculty (both full and part-time) including delivery of new faculty orientation workshops, creation and updating of new faculty on boarding resources and conducting teaching observations
  • Act as a teaching practice expert to provide theoretical and/or applied direction and advice on a wide variety of topics to faculty and Chairs (e.g., active learning, outcomes-based delivery, academic offences, de-escalating conflict in the classroom, group work, etc.)
  • Remain current with teaching practices and procedures by teaching one course per year at Conestoga

 


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with a teachable subject and education related to faculty development, adult education, intercultural studies or a related field
  • Experience teaching in outcomes-based, post-secondary credit courses
  • Five years of relevant experience
  • High skill level in all aspects of outcomes-based post-secondary education (e.g. curriculum development, lesson planning, classroom management, evaluation, active learning, etc.)
  • Previous experience leading teacher education
  • Experience with diverse student groups including, but not limited to indigenous, international, newcomers to Canada, students with disabilities, LGBTQ2S, and other students with diverse support needs).
  • Experience with technology-enhanced teaching practices and Learning Management Systems (LMSs)
  • Substantial experience teaching international students and/or demonstrable intercultural skills
  • Ability to respond to attendee challenges during delivery and to facilitate difficult conversations
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and document creation skills with the ability to create accessible educational materials
  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural, presentation, communication, coaching, consultation and planning skills
