Administrative Full-time Permanent Replacement Position

We have an exciting opportunity available for a qualified individual to provide highly effective management of Conestoga Colleges Bookstores. The incumbent provides leadership, direction, and expertise in the development, support, and implementation of a college wide model for the acquisition, deployment, and support of course and academic materials to support student success.

  • Responsible for all financial, inventory, operational and customer service areas of the Bookstores and course and academic material services including but not exclusive to textbooks, eText, learning packages, kits, uniforms, and supplies
  • Works collaboratively with Academic leaders, faculty, and College Administrators in the development and implementation of a course material strategy and the effective use of course materials in support of the College’s Strategic plan and Digital Direction
  • Provides leadership and direction for all aspects of the Bookstore operations including all in-store activities such as customer service standards, preparation of and accuracy of course materials, inventory and financial management, marketing and communication strategies, and the overall effectiveness of connecting with students, faculty, and clients to enhance sales, net contribution, and satisfaction
  • Provides oversight into business plan development, budget planning, sales, and marketing as it relates to the products, goals and objectives of the Conestoga College Bookstore and course material services (e.g. textbooks, eText)
  • Develops and implements a marketing plan to champion the Bookstore and Course Materials resources on campus and sell its services
  • Fosters a safe, respectful, supportive, and participative work environment; ensures compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures in the areas of health and safety, human rights, equity, diversity, and accessibility. Complies with Collective Agreements and Administrative Terms & Conditions of Employment
  • Maintains a high level of staff performance through effective recruitment, selection, development, engagement, performance management, and evaluation of full-time and part-time staff
  • Responsible for the administration, training, and marketing of course material services including but not limited to, physical textbooks, rentals, used, digital, and the eText Program
  • Works closely with the Academic Areas, Office of the Registrar, and Information Technology Services (ITS) in the continued development of the distribution model and tracking of course materials
  • Organizes, develops, and implements performance measurement strategies to ensure objectives of the course material strategy are attained including the provision of appropriate learning resources and supports
  • Maintains knowledge of current and new Bookstore industry standards and innovations regarding textbooks, eText, store operations, contracted systems, and services (e.g. Bookware, Texidium, Chase)
  • Establishes and applies standards, policies and procedures for purchasing, pricing, selling, stocking, cash handling, record maintenance, staffing, safety and security, and inventory control

Qualifications:

  • Three year degree/ diploma in Business administration or a related field
  • A minimum of five years work experience managing in higher education or customer focused service environment with a preference for a high volume environment
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial skills and experience in managing change
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong networking skills and experience
  • Outstanding client/customer service skills
  • Experience managing staff in a unionized environment
  • Ability to build a strong staff team and to encourage a collaborative work environment
  • Demonstrated planning and problem solving skills; excellent judgement
  • Experience in developing and managing very large and complex budgets
  • Excellent computer skills and understanding of the potential role of social media in promoting retail and campus services
