  • One Support Staff Full-time New Position

    As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves around the world and in our local community, Conestoga College continues to adjust plans based on the guidance provided by our local Public Health authority. The Junior eLearning Developers support the development and maintenance of the College’s online courses. This includes transforming text-based course materials into innovative designs using the effective application of web development to create learning objects, interactive web pages, custom tools, etc. to be used in the College’s online course offerings. You will collaborate with Instructional Designers, subject matter experts, Creative Services, and Quality Assurance Specialists on online course projects to develop quality online courses that support active learning.


Course Development

  • Collaborates with project teams (e.g., Instructional designers, subject matter experts, Creative Services, Quality Assurance Specialists, etc.) to develop online assets, modules, and courses
  • Develops and maintains web-based objects to support the College’s online course offerings (e.g., learning objects, games, interactive web components, etc.)
  • Develops instructional content into Conestoga’s chosen Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Assists eLearning Developers on larger course development projects
  • Creates practice exercises, knowledge checks, and other instructional elements using the LMS tools
  • Assists with the creation of developer templates and standards
  • Attends agile or other project team meetings and provides regular status updates on planned activities, identifying any issues or challenges
  • Develops accessible solutions that comply with AODA requirements
  • Follows the Online Learning Centre’s (OLC’s) quality assurance practices to support the integrity of Conestoga’s online courses

Technical Support

  • Responds to inquiries and provides eConestoga technical support
  • Performs LMS administrative tasks (e.g., managing accounts, courses, and system settings)
  • Masters functionality within the system and best practices
  • Provides guidance and expertise to students and faculty regarding the effective use of the LMS
  • Keeps up to date with regularly scheduled platform changes

Online Course and Website Maintenance

  • Implements requested online course revisions identified by subject matter experts
  • Works with Instructional Designers and subject matter experts to determine revision requirements
  • Completes OntarioLearn course revisions requests and loads eLearning courses to the OntarioLearn portal
  • Adds, deletes, and changes course content as requested keeping offerings up-to-date
  • Ensures content is presented consistently and makes revisions to ensure courses meet identified quality standards
  • Converts static designs and transforms them into HTML accessible solutions
  • Modifies content for use on other platforms (mobile phones/tablets)
  • Develops alternative formats for eLearning activities
  • Tests for technical correctness and usability; successfully troubleshoots technical issues
  • Tests courses using accessibility software such as JAWS to ensure courses are AODA compliant
  • Ensures all new and updated website content meets AODA accessibility standards
  • Assists with publishing and maintaining content for the Institute of Online Studies website
  • Performs ongoing maintenance to correct any inaccuracies appearing on the website in program descriptions, services, etc.
  • Updates broken links, optimizes photo and digital assets, corrects misspellings, improves accessibility, and ensures best practice for website content
  • Converts approved designs to responsive, accessible HTML5 web pages for the website


  • Three-year Diploma/Degree in Information Technology, Computer Programming, Applications Development, Mobile Solutions Development or relevant discipline
  • Minimum of two years of experience developing online course assets and integrating LMS tools, preferably for post-secondary education
  • Experience incorporating technology and media enhanced instructional methods to improve the learners’ experience
  • Knowledge of back-end learning management systems, preferably Brightspace by D2L
  • Understanding of responsive designs and how they function across desktops, tablets, and mobile phones
  • Understanding of online course design and development process, as well as implementation within learning management systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong technical skills including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Adobe Creative suite, etc.
  • Expected to remain technically current with the tools and applications they are using, as well as with emerging instructional technologies
