Conestoga College (College) is a leader in polytechnic education and its career-focused education, training, and applied research programs prepare students for success, support industry and workforce needs, and promote economic prosperity throughout the Waterloo Region and across Ontario.
The creative economy is growing at a rapid pace, both globally and domestically, and Waterloo region offers unique conditions for nourishing the growth of this sector. It is within this context that the School of Creative Industries (School) has undertaken an ambitious journey to become a leader in 21st-century polytechnic education in digital innovation, design, and creativity. The School currently has 17 unique programs and this number is expected to double with the creation of a new state-of-the-art campus in downtown Kitchener as well as the expansion of the existing facilities at Doon campus. The expanded campus and our new campus will house specialized learning spaces, including animation and design studios, media/film studios, art rooms, a fabrication hub, augmented reality and visual effects labs, collaboration areas, and exhibit spaces to showcase student work. A healthy creative economy has a profound positive and transformative impact on communities and the College will be a major catalyst for the growth of this sector locally.
Due to the continued growth of the School and a recent departure, the College has elected to reorganize the leadership of the program areas under two new Chairs:
- Chair, Creative Industries – Media, Film, Spatial Design
- Chair, Creative Industries – Game, Animation, Design
Reporting to the Executive Dean Applied Computer Science & IT and Creative Industries, the incumbents will be part of an administrative team that oversees academic deliveries at multiple locations throughout the Waterloo Region, including but not limited to the Doon, downtown Kitchener, and Waterloo campuses of the College. The incumbents will provide academic leadership for all credentials, specifically the degree programs and ensure that the audit, accreditation and quality assurance protocols, and related documentation are in place. The incumbents will be involved in the administrative process of recruiting, hiring, and assessing faculty (both full and part time) and working with program teams to staff and monitor teaching assignments. The incumbents will be actively engaged in program quality assurance and will contribute to the evaluation and enhancement of existing programs, as well as leading the creation and assessment of new program offerings, with a specific focus on digital content creation. School growth is a key focus, both domestically and internationally, and the incumbents will be expected to actively contribute to strategies that achieve these goals and will play a key role in advancing external partnership development.
