Position Summary

Academic Part-time Position

As a Part-Time Professor, you will develop and deliver curriculum using various engaging and innovative methods, playing a pivotal role in enhancing academic excellence through sound teaching practice.

The School of Health & Life Sciences is seeking qualified professionals to teach theory and lab courses part-time in our Nursing and affiliated programs for the fall (September to December) and/or winter (January to April) terms. We welcome applications from Registered Nurses who have worked in the health care system, have experience teaching and/or mentoring students, and have expertise in the following subject matter areas:

  • Human Anatomy and Physiology
  • Human Biology and Biochemistry
  • Pharmacology and Pathophysiology

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on-site at Conestoga’s Doon campus, located at 299 Doon Valley Drive. Conestoga offers classes Monday to Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Courses are largely delivered in person according to our academic calendar. Part-time Professors typically teach one to two courses. Courses are approximately three to six hours per week in the classroom for a 14-week term.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure program and course curriculum are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices in the field
  • Design appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including online, classroom, and computer-assisted lab lessons
  • Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
  • Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of student work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
  • Support students in the use of eConestoga, the learning management system (D2L), as well as maintain course materials within this system
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college

Qualifications

  • MScN or master's degree in nursing is required; PhD preferred
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing and entitled to practice with no restrictions is required
  • Minimum of five years of nursing experience is required
  • Previous adult or post-secondary level teaching experience is an asset
  • Experience with curriculum development is an asset
  • Experience with computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels, including international students and students requiring accommodation, is an asset
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and ability to support Conestoga’s continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections are considered an asset
