Position Summary

Support Staff Casual Part-time Position

The Field Placement Associate organizes and schedules field placements for the School of Community Services. The Field Placement Associate facilitates seminars; acts as a resource to students, academic teams, and community placement locations; promotes the programs; and is responsible for program-related administrative processes associated with field placement.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with the ability to work on-site at the Brantford, Waterloo, and Doon (Kitchener) campuses. The Field Placement Associate will have the potential to work up to 24 hours per week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and observe students in field placement settings in the community
  • Meet with educators and students, offering support and assisting with problem-solving
  • Provide verbal and written feedback to students
  • Complete paperwork, mark placement assignments and maintain individual files
  • Review and interpret mid-term and final evaluations; Assign final grades based on pre-established criteria, and communicate to academic teams
  • Schedule field placements for students in Community Services academic programs
  • Develop and monitor placement completion plans for students who have missed placement requirements
  • Maintain master tracking records of students’ placements and communicate with academic teams
  • Develop and make changes to field placement assignments in collaboration with academic program teams, and contribute to course outline updates & instructional plans
  • Maintain eConestoga course shell for placements
  • Conduct seminars with field placement students
  • Update Student Handbooks regarding field placement information and/or requirements
  • Collaborate with WIL Field Placement Officers regarding pre-placement requirements
  • Act as a liaison within the community, promoting Community Services programs to prospective practice and administrative staff within organizations
  • Maintain ongoing contact with organizations used for placements, ensuring program updates and specific student information are communicated to them
  • Under the direction of the academic program administrators, develop and organize community events, including regular support workshops for community organizations
  • Visit possible new placement locations, meet with staff, complete program observation and make recommendations to academic program teams regarding decisions on suitability of placement
  • Attend program meetings and contribute to changes as they relate to field placements

Qualifications

  • Two-year diploma in Early Childhood Education, Educational Support, Social Services Worker, Recreation and Leisure Services, or other fields of study related to Community Services is required
  • Minimum one year of practical experience in a Community Services field is required
  • Experience working with college students and/or experience as a team leader/supervisor within an organization is preferred
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Computer Skills – including Word, basic Excel and email
